About this event

Join us for a fun day at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium!

As part of our 2023 One Book, One Community join us at 10:30 a.m. at the Educational Center for a special program about how the zoo transports animals, followed by a Q & A with the giraffe keepers.

Reduced admission ($15/adult) includes all-day admission, parking, and special programs. The zoo's hours of operations are tentatively 9:30 - 4:30, attendees are welcome to stay as long as desired following the program. The library will provide a wristband needed for admittance prior to the date of the event.

Recommended for ages 8 and up. Please note, the zoo requires a minimum of 15 attendees for the group admission rate and to host the special program.

This year's One Book, One Community selection is West with Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge.

What is West with Giraffes about?

Inspired by a true story, this adventure features a road trip transporting two giraffes across the U.S. from New York to San Diego in 1938. The novel is complete with stowaways, circuses, attempted giraffe-napping, biblical catastrophe, romance, shocking truths, sacrifices, and tragedy.

A shared reading experience is a springboard to conversation about our lives, connecting friends and neighbors throughout South Fayette.
